Save Money

Saving for and with grandchildren

I have six grandchildren, ages 16, 15, 12, 9, 6 and 3. I want to start saving money for them, but I want them to participate in the savings program. I'd like to give the older kids an allowance plus a savings account. I don't have much money so I'm not going to be investing in the stock market or anything like that. But I could manage maybe $100/month to split between the six of them. Any ideas?Read More...

Think of how expensive it is to have pizza delivered. If ordered frequently, you could be losing a lot of money long term. What kind of store bought pizza is almost or as good as pizza chains? What is the worst? I don't know what the best is. However, the worst is Celeste. It's tastes like it is made with American cheese rather than mozzarella.Read More...

Saving money

The first step to saving money is to figure out how much you spend. Keep track of all your expenses—that means every coffee, household item and cash tip. Once you have your data, organize the numbers by categories, such as gas, groceries and mortgage, and total each amount. Consider using your credit card or bank statements to help you with this. Bank of America clients can use the Spending & Budgeting tool , which automatically categorizes your transactions for easier budgeting in the...Read More...

Traveling All 50 States On a Budget

Moore Income
Hi all! It's been quite a while since I have posted on here. While I still try checking in from time to time, my time on the internet has been limited. My wife and I have now been on the road for over 1 month. We are on a trip to visit all 50 States in the U.S.A. and to date we have been to 18 of them. (Driving 48 and flying to Alaska and Hawaii) Our goal is to finish 49 by December and then fly to Hawaii in early January to complete the trip. Many times we get the question, "How can you...Read More...

How To Save Money on Groceries

Six on a Budget
How do others save money when buying groceries? I have two ideas that have worked really well, among others: First: Ask what do we have to eat; not what are we in the mood to eat? That simple question saved us remarkably by making do and getting creative with what we already have in the house, rather than frequently running back to the grocery store for a "few more things". Next: Call your local grocery store and ask what time of day that store clearances meat, produce and bakery items. Shop...Read More...

Prime discount for vets

Amazon has a Veteran's Day special going--$79 a year for Prime if you're a vet. Existing Prime members can apply. If you order from Amazon or shop at Whole Foods frequently this could be a good deal. Fun fact: The Army has more planes than the Air Force and more ships than the Navy. Hooah!Read More...

Main drain clogged

Don Rotanz
Here is a money saving idea that has saved me hundreds of dollars. Main sewer line is clogged and plumber wants at lease $150 just to come out. Open up the cleanout or vent and slowly push the disc (which is attached to a handle) all the way to the bottom and pull up really fast. I have cleaned out 3 main drains within seconds using this. Good luck, DonRead More...

Teaching Your Kids to Save: I am a Bit Confused (HELP)

Hello everyone, Hope you are fine. I have a question! I am trying to teach my 10-year-old how to save. But so far it’s been a total bust. I gave him $5 and told him to spend it through the week. He handed the money to his elder brother on the VERY FIRST DAY and got himself candy bars, chocolate, and other junk stuff. I came across this article about teaching your kids about money-saving which has some interesting points. For instance, I’m definitely getting him a savings jar. But I’m open to...Read More...

Saving money on pet meds

Patricia Gauss
This is my first post, and let me begin by saying that this is not self-promotion, and I have no personal interest in promoting this company/web site, but I saw the article this morning on saving money on pet expenses, and thought I would share this info. I have saved a ton of money on my dogs' (6 of them - all but one are rescues) flea and heartworm meds during the past 10 years or so by buying from a web site called . They are located in Australia, and you do NOT...Read More...

How to save when grocery shopping

Brianna Herbert
It’s only my husband and I, but we spend hundreds of dollars each week on groceries. We are both on specific meal plans and prefer to eat clean/organic when possible. After clipping coupons, scouring sales ads and only buying items when there’s a deal we STILL end up spending so much just to feed us for about a week. We just bought a house and have been through multiple unsuccessful fertility treatments so our budget is TIGHT. How can we save more without starving?Read More...

Strange credit card tip

Hey, So I was listening to the radio one time when they started talking about a strange credit card tip. Put a condom on it--seriously. The reasoning behind this is that you'll be embarrassed to pull out your credit card due to the rubber and will think very carefully before using it. Hmm, that was unfortunate phrasing... Thought I'd just throw that out there. What's the strangest credit card advice you've ever received?Read More...

Save Money, Mystery Shop!

Valerie Magorrian
I wrote a brief of my mystery shopping experience a few weeks ago and go such an overwhelming response that I thought I would write another to elaborate a little more and just in case anyone missed the first one. There are a lot of scams out there so my suggestion is to thoroughly search the company, by their name and also read the reviews on them. Look for their FB pages. When you go to their page, check out the reviews. If they are a good company, they will. have MANY reviews with most...Read More...
