10 U.S. Cities Perfect for a Car-Free Vacation
Even in pre-pandemic times, renting a car added significantly to the cost of the vacation. Fortunately, some of the best summer destinations are also walkable and only a short ride from the airport. What other car-free vacation spots would you recommend?

What is the thing that disqualifies Kansas City from this list? Auto manufactures(Kansas CityKS(GM) And ClaycomoMO(Ford)! That is also the reason the  city owned  bus company is a joke, along with its street car that goes back and forth six miles each way on Main street. Amtrak comes right onto Main street but then you have to rent a car(heavy tax) to go anywhere or pay an outrageous priced cab. Street car doesn't go south of (Pershing Street=27th Street)

Really good spots listed here! I'd also add Virginia Beach, Virginia (Ocean Front). Once you've arrived and checked into your hotel, condo etc. Everything you need or want is on that 3 mile stretch of Atlantic ave. and Pacific Ave that runs parallel to it. It's very pedestrian friendly. The traffic is insane during the summer, which is another reason to park your vehicle and walk. There's a CVS for necessary items as well as a 7-Eleven on that stretch. The city and venders also rent bikes and scooters now I believe. There are plenty of places to eat and the beach is a stones throw away at anytime!

My wife and i have been to New York City , but that was well before the pandemic. vacationing there without a car in this would be quite different because of the pandemic. in this instance, you u dont know whom has covid-19, non vaccatinated  or vaccatinated.  if we could visit without dealing with large crowds and having to be so aware of wiping with disinfectinate/spraying lysol we would visit very soon.

I've been to 4 of those and will second that they are very much car free and easy access! Boston is an amazing city and easy to get around in IF you are not trying to drive it.
I want to mention Cape Cod- you can bike pretty much everywhere. However getting there would be a challenge.
