Re: Hello new members!

Hi Nathan, Do you have any suggestions of apps or tools? So far, I keep accountable to my family & bank account. My situation is a little different.....I used to work in the financial industry actually. I'm a SAHM because I have a son with medical needs. Like most parents, I will spend any money it takes for my son to be healthy & happy. So our lives detour but we were still able to get lots of trips in last year as well as the unexpected 3 weeks hospital stay without incurring any...

Re: High-interest savings accounts

Moore Income ·
Thanks for sharing this one. I am always on the lookout for out for high interest savings accounts. The space is getting pretty competitive so I think we will be seeing higher and higher interest accounts in the near future. I am excited about Robinhood as they just announced they will soon be launching a 3% savings account which I will most definitely be taking advantage of once it launches.

I recently opened a savings account with Ally. It had the highest APY that I saw at the time. It's been good so far. They allow for plenty of transfers per statement and partner with Zelle for immediate transfers. That being said, hearing about 2.4% and 3% APY is changing my mind lol

Re: How Do You Do Your Taxes? Yourself or Someone Else?

Lisa Eichinger ·
Sorry. @Moore income: turbo tax and H&R block are still good places to do taxes on your own cause they will walk you through everything online. It will generally be up to you if you want to pay to get them done and how much you are willing to pay. Credit Karma also offers free tax filing if you have an account with them. Even with the changes in your life in the past year, it won't make things too difficult in the tax aspect if you decide to do them online by yourself.

Ally used to carry the payments on our Nissan Sentra before my wife was rear ended and nearly killed back in December of 2015. We dealt with them for 2 1/2 years, and they were very easy to deal with. We've considered putting our money in the "high" interest savings accounts, but, like you, haven't quite pulled that trigger yet. We've got a friend who is making more by putting his money into back taxes on small properties. He's getting on average of 6-8% a year on his money compared to...

I have been using The Ally banking/savings app for a few months and have been quite happy. I have a checking and a savings account. The savings account currently earns 2.2% and has gone up twice since opening the account. I use the checking account to save for known upcoming expenses and the savings I am using for emergency fund. Also, there are no fees.

Since this post, my Ally account shot up to 2.2%! I'm also seeing some bigger banks upping their game. Discover now has 2.10% APY savings account, which ain't too bad.

How are you getting 2.4% at Ally? Mine's only 2.2% right now.

No, you're right! That was a typo on my end. Ally upped their rates to 2.2%. I'll edit my other post

I'm disabled, too, and I've found mystery shopping to be an excellent source of income. I also write and proofread. I don't know about your SSDI status, but you might want to look into an ABLE account so you don't get penalized for saving money.

Thanks for sharing such a comprehensive list! I did check on the DCU website and it does actually say there is a $5 minimum. Not that it makes a huge difference but just sharing what I saw. I have also used Aspiration which pays a 1% APY with no minimum or fees. I am also trying out the Haven Money savings account which pays 2% APY and up to 4% if you refer enough people.

I'm not familiar with the area @Wen Dee . I'm in South Africa. But I do know that Payoneer will give you $25 on your first deposit of $100 or more. And your debit card get delivered at your door. Service fees for an account is $3 per month. Just let me know if you need more info. Hope this helps.

@Wen Dee I also cannot say specifically for your area but I did find this website post that might help answer your question. I cannot personally vouch for any of the info but they seem to have some good insight. I personally have been frustrated after signing up for a local bank here in Fargo, ND. They offered a promotion but then made the "details" obscure and not very clear. We ended up not getting anything at all and they had some sort of reason (excuse) for why we did not qualify. I...

Re: How Many Bank Accounts Is Too Many?

KellyFromKeene ·
I'm laughing at your headline because i was just discussing this with someone yesterday. I have about 10 as well, and with 3 different banks. Some of them have a single purpose (reduced car loan interest rate at a particular bank if I use direct debt, so there's account just for that), one for each child that I put $10 in each payday, and others that are more general. There's obviously one that I use for everyday stuff- general bills and debit card. I love the different accounts! I use...

@KellyFromKeene I agree with you, it is a really great way to save money without really thinking about it. I have one app that pulls $5 from an account every week and I occasionally add some extra. Just doing that I built it up to over $300 pretty fast without really even missing the money. @mintjulep It can definitely get a little hectic the more accounts you have, I am still trying to develop an effective way to organize mine.

@Soraima Déniz Pérez they don't yet have a built in Zelle integration -- you could transfer funds to another account but it's not as quick and easy as it is with Zelle at other banks, etc.
