Hello, I am Jerica from Michigan. I am a Guidance Counselor. My husband works for Amazon and we have had custody of my deceased sister's four boys for the last five years. I am interested in helping them to start off on the right food with their finances. We are also trying to move our credit back to over 700 again. It was great when we bought our home 8 years ago. But life happened and we are on the upswing now.

Welcome aboard! I'm Becky from Indianapolis--my boss at my restaurant job is Filipino and I've fallen in love with your food. There's nothing quite like fresh lumpia with coconut vinegar (that's my go-to dish at the restaurant), and chicken adobo is good, too. We've got members from all around the world, so don't be shy!

Hi @Sean Great goals and a great reason to work hard to improve your finances. I am sure you will go far in the next 7 years! @Lanasuehal Welcome to the community. I understand it can be frustrating to be in your shoes, but I don't believe in any way shape or form that you are "useless to society" as you said. We all have unique circumstances and gifts, maybe you just haven't found out yours yet, but don't give up! If you don't quit, you will eventually find the perfect thing for you! Maybe...

@Crissy Fultz Welcome to the community. If you have any creative skills (writing, graphic design, editing, etc) you can always sell services online on sites like Fiverr and Upwork. I personally am a huge fan of buying stuff and reselling it online. It takes a learning curve but it has been a consistent way for me to earn on the side for years and I am now trying to make it my full time business. The sky is the limit when it comes to making money online, it really just depends on your...

Hi @Junryl Lampazo Welcome to the community! My wife is from the Philippines so I have learned a lot about your culture from her and being around her family and friends. I still have not visited your country yet but hope to in the near future! Poverty is a real struggle for a lot of people but there is nothing that a little bit of determination and hard work can't do to change that. My wife's family is a testimony to that. You seem to have the attitude and desire to succeed and I wish you...

Glad to have you here, though, and look forward to your input and to offer any help I can. Have fun, listen, contribute and learn! Hi Reynolds J...We also use a lot of coupons, use gas points from Kroger when we go shopping there...since the station is right there, if the points allowed off gas bring it anywhere close to the lowest price we've seen or lower, we use them to purchase the petrol. We shop many of the dollar stores, Aldi's Market, and even Gordons Food Service (where one has to buy in bulk on many things), but in the long run have found it's much better to spend a little bit more at times to be able to use...

I had an aunt who worked as a secretary in a university in Indiana for years. Her husband was a professor there for 30 years. They used their teachers savings program to invest for retirement, and I believe they also had their 401K's and or IRA's. I know they also used EE Gov't savings bonds, and CD's. Of course then, CD's were paying anywhere from 5-8%. I believe you're on a good track. My relatives used "stay-cations" and then also vacationed close to home a lot of the time.

Meri, I'm so sorry to hear that it's down to one now. I truly feel for you, and I'll be praying for you. Have you tried to modify your mortgage because of it now being down to one? It never hurts to check. There might be other avenues to lighten the load as well. Fifteen years is how long we've been in our place, and we've been down to one, but also have my SSI. That helps, but not much. I'll do a little more research to find out if it's possible to get you the help you need. I can't promise...

Presently I have an appointment with a bank that will look into refinancing. It is incredible however, I made one call and I am being hounded by many for refinancing. I have a hard time trusting banking folks. I thank you Joe for your kindness.

Re: Hello new members!

Lanasuehal ·
Meri: Never apply for financing at a bank. Go to a credit Union and open and account and then apply for a refinancing loan. Interest will be much cheaper and credit unions are much safer than banks. Most banks are fun by democrats and they are robbing people left and right doing loans.

Hi @Chrissysid ! Have you tried your town or city's Human Service (welfare) office? I don't know about MA, but in NH and some other states, every town and city is required to have financial assistance to offer to people that can not pay their rent. Of course you have to apply, and it is often not advertised, but I would call your town/city hall and ask them. It's worth asking about. They can be very helpful, not to mention linking you up to other places that can help.
