A resources tab?

The Saving Scientist ·
Hi Penny Hoarders, I was wondering whether it's a good idea to have a "Financial Resources" tab which can serve as a type of directory for readers to access resources that might help their financial situation? Whether this includes budget templates or podcasts or blog posts etc. I know that it's likely that these would be posted within some of the established categories, but I think it might be nice to have a one-stop place to find them? Thoughts?

What an excellent idea @Moore Income . Which got me thinking. While @Briana and The Penny Hoarder are working on that. Perhaps provide us with a logo or image to use in a side bar image widget. And redirect the image to our Penny Hoarder Community profiles? That could work, right? What do you think?

Community Badges to Add to Personal Blogs?

I just read the description for the "Think Bank" topic on this forum. Turns out, I have probably been categorizing a few of my posts under this topic that don't quite fit. I was actually wondering if there was a way for us to make recommendations for this forum and it turns out, that is the official reason for the "Think Bank" thread. That being said, here is something I think would be cool. I am a blogger and I know a few others on here are bloggers and I am sure there are more to come. I...

Hey, I am wondering if anyone else has had this experience here on the forum: Sometimes, when I go to comment on someone's post, I type out my comment and hit "post reply" and then my comment completely disappears. I thought maybe it was because it was sent to moderation but when I checked my pending posts, it was nowhere to be seen. This has happened to me before and I resubmitted twice thinking maybe it was something on my end. After it still didn't work, I just gave up but the next day I...

Has a multi-level marketing job affected your finances or health negatively?

Opportunity to be featured in a Penny Hoarder article Have you been a part of a multi-level marketing (or direct sales) company either has an employee or as a customer? Then we want to hear your story. We are looking for personally affected sources for an investigation into multi-level-marketing (MLM) companies and scams. Did working at an MLM affect your finances negatively? Has a product sold by an MLM company affected your health? Has a seller made wild claims that turned out to be false,...

My immediate answer would be "NO I would not leave"... but it is easy to say that. Unfortunately, the world we live in is a lot more focused on "me" and when it comes to relationships, it is hard to find that level of commitment. I believe it is the right thing and only thing you should do to stay with your partner. But it will require a lot of sacrifice. I have a lot of respect for people like yourself who are willing to make that sacrifice! Like I said, it is a rare occurrence in this day...

@Moore Income i agree with what you have said about people really take into account before getting into a serious relationship. There not many people that would stay and i find it sad. My husband is still the same man i met 39 years ago just his health is bad. He all so had the start of Alzheimer's. That isn't easy to deal with but its a part of life that I would not change. I always hate when people say I know you didn't sign up for this or I didn't sign up for this. Yes, you did. If you took marriage vows, you did. Sickness and health, richer or poorer means what it means. We don't get to say, well, I didn't think it would be this bad so it's null and void. So does not work that way. I always wonder to myself about those who have left their disabled/ill partner, are they perhaps in the belief that they themselves will NEVER ever get sick? What goes through...

I don't remember what I wanted to do as a child, but I know in High School I wanted to be a fabulous Psychiatrist, living the single life in NYC. haha. I couldn't be happier as a Social Worker, currently working with families receiving Section 8, and living in small town NH with those I love. Life is strange.

There is a page here for resources that The Penny Hoarder provides: https://community.thepennyhoarder.com/pages/resources Are you referring more to a Topic Thread where community members can share their own personal resources? There is a section here in The Guidelines that says that there should be no soliciting unless requested by the admins. Hey Ron, Thanks for the reply. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of: if someone found a resource (not necessarily their own, so it wouldn't be self-promotion) that was really helpful for them, then they can share that with the community? But I get that maybe this blurs the lines a little with the guidelines.

No I wouldn't 😂. But lets face reality. Apart from religion and what other people say about marriage vows and the rest, it's very hard to watch the person you love not being able to carry out normal daily activities because of some mental or physical impairment. No normal person with a good heart will run away like that, unless you never loved the person from start. But No matter how righteous a person is, there's no way the thought of leaving that person won't come to mind, because you'd...

Keep chasing your dreams! There are ways to teach from home if you are okay with teaching online. Not all of the online programs require degrees. A lot of the sites used to help Asian students learn English do not require a degree. Here is a link to a list you can check: https://theworkathomewife.com/teach-english-online/ It has info for 20 online companies. I have been involved in several Multi-Level Marketing companies and while I would not go as far as to say they are a "scam" I also have not found them to be that great as far as income opportunities. Many times, they are promoted as a way to earn extra income on the side but I have found that unless you are completely dedicated to the company you are promoting, you will not get very far at all. There are some MLM companies out there that have decent products, but when it comes to the actual...

The last thing i did was the oysters that you seen all over face book. Well I found out they are scams. They did have groups that should have been helping you but not so if you asked about things they boot you from the group. They had the people lying to people who paid for things and was still waiting a month for the earls or the charms necklaces that help the pearls. They the pearls was worth $300 or more when they are only worth $6 to $8. Oh even qvc stop selling oyster in the cans. I did...

Job Searching: Grit and Prayer

Not real certain where this fits in this community, but in a recent Hoarder e-mail they spoke about Zero Based Budgeting. My wife and I had just returned from our honeymoon as I resumed my position as a bookkeeper for a publishing company. The company wasn't doing well financially and soon several of us were released with a severance check to hold us until we landed on our feet. Not only did I not have the marketable skills necessary to traverse the rough road ahead of me but I also had a...

I have lived in Fargo, ND for about 5 years now. I like the area and have a good job but the weather here can be brutal. Since visiting Florida over Christmas, coming back to Fargo in this weather has not been fun to say the least and I keep thinking about the possibility of just packing...

I think this is an excellent example of how to think outside the box when the going gets tough. A lot of people in your situation would have simply thrown in the towel and lost all hope. I can't tell you how many people I know who simply make excuses for their situation instead of doing something about it. What you did was unconventional, but in the end it proved that when you think outside the box, with a little perseverance and hard work, you can make the best of your situation!

The weather definitely played into my decision to move to Florida from Washington, D.C. But I definitely had other things in line (a job, an affordable apartment) that justified being excited about the weather changes ahead for me. Now when I go visit my family up in New England or the Mid-Atlantic, I have to bundle up extra- I always joke my blood has thinned out!

I recently moved from Maine to Florida and there are a few notable expense changes. My favorite is no more paying for plowing! Also, not all buildings in Florida have heating systems built into them. Depending on your living situation, no fuel bill. However, during the summer time, the AC will be running just about all day and all night. Therefore, higher electric bills. If you are thinking about buying a house in a different climate, I would recommend doing some serious research before...

There is a lot to be said for a mild climate. I live in southeast Florida with my family. As the others have mentioned, it's good to do your homework before making the leap. If you have kids you'll want to look at the education system. I have issues with the current public school system (I know many excellent public school teachers here, but the system stinks in my opinion). At times we've homeschooled (most of Florida is very friendly to homeschoolers) and at times we've made the sacrifice...

There are so many beautiful places in both the US & Canada that I have visited. I live in the Pacific Northwest area & it can get pretty gray & rainy here. When I worked for the airlines, one year I flew to Scottsdale 8 weekends in a row to get out of the rain & enjoy their amazing winter weather. If I were to move, I would consider who lives near me such as family & good friends for a support system, especially if you have a young family. The weather is a big factor too,...
