Funny you should mention the coin tales down @Bonnie Squires . I always wondered how that worked. Needless to say, because I wasn't sure. I never pick up a coin...lol! Guess I'm a little more superstitious than I thought.

Re: How Do You Effectively Save Money On A Consistent Basis?

mintjulep ·
@Bonnie Squires So far our bank does not charge for cashing in or depositing rolled coins, but I suppose it's just a matter of time. If they do I guess I'll hit one of those coin machines in the grocery store, I think the one nearest allows us to accept a gift card with no fee, but if we want a check or bills, they take a commission out of your funds. A gift card is fine to avoid any fees. @LeighofMar I also signed up for ebates a long time ago but never quite got into it and I can't...

MINTJULEP your lucky last time we used a coin machine we ended up paying $50 some dollars for it but that was NY and i'm sure its gone up since than. The town I'm in now i've not asked for coins but my try. Funny thing is when you bring your change into them they don't want it rolled they want it lose and they weigh it now. I though that was weird but they do that than I'm guessing the machine rolls it for them to

Re: Down Payment on a House

There are always two sides to a coin. FHA loans have served the first time Buyers well for years. these loans offer low down payment as the main lure, however they are not cheap and where they start at 97% loan, once one adds up the total costs of getting one it usually ends up as over 5% of the total price with only 3% going towards the actual equity. A Conventional loan appears at the outset to not be as appealing because it usually requires a minimum of 5% down plus costs. However I...

I have opted for the Coin Out free app and am happy to say I like it, you won't get rich anytime soon! It is a little more jungle in my pocket today.Looking forward to an Amazon gift card. In the past I have tried Ibotta, found it too restricting-very specific on items that qualify that did not fit our lifestyles. It is probably very good for those who purchase brand name items on a regular basis.

I think I'll try out this Coin Out. I don't like Ibotta; it's too brand-specific as mentioned above.

Ibotta has many any items on their app now as to allow you to get the brand you like. The amounts for any item are not as large as the ones for specific name brand items but all extra money is good in my book. Each receipts goes thru the following: First - Ibotta Second - Coin out Third - Fetch Fourth - Swagbucks and last: if I got specific item for SavingStar or Checkout 51 then I will add to that app....

Coin Out is an app you can put on your phone for the purpose of saving money. Not a lot of money! what you do is scan in receipts and you'll receive small amounts of money in your account, literally cents. It is more than I had yesterday. Here is a link describing the "how to's": https://www.coinout.com/ I was looking for anyone who has signed up for Acorns under the Coin Out app that could offer their opinion and/or experiences.

Hi @Moore Income I've been collecting coins for awhile. I just done it because i new the coins was old or sliver or copper even coins from the year i was born or a family member. Well in 2017 our son got me a gallon size zip lock bag filled with old colds and new coins. There is a 1943 sliver penny and some copper pennies not sure what else is in there. But i've asked around about them not many heard of the sliver penny. What i found out so far is the copper is worth more than the sliver...

Hey fellow Penny Hoarders. Coin collecting has been something I have been interested in for quite some time now but haven't really known where to get started. I have a few older coins that I have gathered over the years mostly from going through coins but nothing too fancy. By using Penny Hoarder methods, a little builds into a little more, by using apps. Scanning items at stores this is a way to build up points for gift cards, that way there is no money out of pocket for a welcome treat of a gift. The 3 apps are ShopKIck, Coin Out, and Fetch work great! Shop Kick offers gift cards as rewards by scanning items in stores. These points build up quickly & you get even bigger rewards for actual purchases . Coin Out is a bit slower, but it gives cash for receipt...

I have a jar that when it fills up I take to those coin disposal machines and turn into a cash payout periodically which I can use to buy groceries. I also when I am walking notice and pick up any coins spilled on the floor and because I also clean up the trash, I have found bills too just tossed away carelessly with the trash. I will personally pick up a coin of any monetary value just because I believe that even a penny has some value when you add more pennies and then begin to multiply it! My biggest source of spare change recently has been from Aldi's LOL Because it is so cold here in the winter, a lot of people don't like to take the time to reconnect their cart and get their quarter, so I am happy to do the task for them and put an extra quarter in my pocket from time to time!

I'm definitely a penny picker-upper or any coin. I usually find them at gas stations, Family Dollar. I save all coins from change received to 2 coin jars and then deposit in my Christmas Club account at the credit union. (Although, there have been times I needed to use the money). It's not the fastest way to accumulate because I rarely carry cash. Twice, I found folded $20 bills on the grass in my front yard! Of course I do. They need homes, too. ;~) Seriously, it depends on the penny and the situation. If the penny looks like it might have some potentially toxic stuff on it and I am unable to clean it before I have to put it in my wallet, pocket, etc, I leave it where it is. Otherwise, I pick it up. it is free money after all. Fun fact: Some stray pennies I have adopted were rare coins. Those I added to my coin collection.

@MsKimberly We just got notification from our bank that we had to call if we were spending over $1,500 on debit. That's stupid...it's our money, NOT theirs. We should be able to spend it any way we want. Something is definitely NOT right about the banking system in this country right now. No change is available in our area either, and paper money is becoming hard to find. It's either card or nothing. And if you're getting coin change back, it's put back on your card since the change shortage...

What I do save my change and then roll it, banks give out coin wraps for free, no need to buy them. Then before you know it you have spare money to either save or wisely spend. And then something breaks in the house or car. Now that we are retired (I hate that word) we are finding that we are not as frugal as we used to be. What are we saving for and how much are we saving, guess this is a turning point? Another chapter, as people say.

A couple favorite hacks. Do surveys for gift cards or pay pal. // A coin jar. (I buy all our groceries with cash to keep us in budget. Change adds up.)// Using discounted postage on packages and envelopes. (Older still valid postage sold online at about 75-85%. You may have to lick or stick a few more stamps, but for me it's fun. Our kids are out of state and think it's hilarious getting a box covered with stamps.)

I am by no means the know all about crypto, however...In 3 months I have doubled my money. Bitcoin is not a scam, but it is not a guarantee that you will make any money and you could lose it all. What I was told is to not invest more than you can lose in crypto. I only invest through a known provider like Robinhood, Coinbase, or Gemini. Any money I put into Bitcoin could be 100% lost at any time, so I put very little there. But what little I put there has made money so far. I also bought ethereum which has made me money. Then I bought dogecoin. The dogecoin appeared to make a lot...

Finding Pennies and Other Coins

I've noticed that it is not easy finding pennies and coins on the ground now. I used to always find them (and sometimes bills, as much as $20 at least twice in my own yard), but it's rare to find them for my coin jar now. I’ve easily spent thousands of dollars in the last four years (when I really kicked up my devotion to the sport), and today was reminded by my Garmin Connect app that it’s almost time for another big spend: two...
