Re: Travel Tips, anyone have any to share?
Volunteer to be bumped if you're flying. I did this in college and frequently got nice compensation, including a flight out of Indianapolis on Race Weekend in first class (that's like winning the lottery; flying out of Indy in May is insanely crowded, especially after the race).

I Found My Work At Home Job On Craigslist For A Consulting Company A Few Years Ago, But I Only Work P/T. I Would Look Into Indeed They Post Tons Of Remote Jobs Or Look Up Rat Race Rebellion They Also Have Alot Of WAH Job Listings....

Re: Side hustle from home
AverageJoe: Rat race rebellion also has some legit work from home ideas, including the teaching English. My only problem is: I don't have a quiet area and most say that the parents want someone who doesn't have an accent... well, that takes me out of the race. Good luck!

Re: hello i would like talk to you about making some money
Julie- What are you looking to do? If you have children, it will be limited as a lot want a quiet office (your boss or yourself) BUT it can be done. Start by looking at Penny Hoarder's job board, Rat Race Rebellion is another. Check out Sarah Titus, too. Good luck! Once you know what you want, you can also check out Indeed.

The American Dream v2.0
Out With The Old And In With The New The American Dream. A house in the suburbs, 2.5 children, fancy car in the driveway and a job with a pension and gold watch. This may sound a little bit outdated, but it’s still the structure, on the whole, of the American Dream. However, there has always been one flaw in this dream. DEBT. 78% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck and are literally two paychecks away from losing everything. When this happens, and it does, people find themselves losing...

What are your thoughts on Extinction Level Events?
It would appear it's in our Nature to destroy ourselves and everything around us. With rather devastating evidence. And what we don not often pay attention to is the fact that the 6th extinction level event is already happening on Earth! And will reach full swing within the next Century! We've been doing an awful lot of Space Exploration lately...just saying... I recently decided to do something completely different from my niche. So I started researching into the Megalodon Shark. The shark...

Re: This week’s Community Announcements 4.10.20
Good question. I have four pet rats that help with the loneliness--Blitz, Krieg, Raleigh, and Caroline. I'm also taking some online courses to cope with the boredom, as well as in the process of searching for a literary agent to publish my YA novel (which I had written before all this). I'm also trying to work on an e-book tentatively titled "Rat Race: Nine Life Secrets from the World's Most Successful Mammal". Thankfully my unemployment claim just got approved, retroactive three weeks. So...

Re: Starting your own business, first time entrepreneurs.
Thank you for sharing @mintjulep ! I am currently entering a similar situation in which I am leaving my job to pursue a business and my wife is going to continue working to help cover some of the bills. What you say about not lowering your price is so true. Once you start lowering your price it only becomes a race to the bottom and before you know it, you are a slave to your business and barely making enough to get by. (that doesn't sound much better than a job to me!)

Re: How do you deal with mooching family members and friends?
My daughter ran the half marathon. It was the third one she ran last year. She did very well, thanks for asking! She actually surprised herself because she was injured in the race she ran in September and wasn't sure if she was going to run at all but figured she would try. We actually missed her at the finish because she thought she was going to be slower than she was. I am very proud of her!

Re: What lessons about money did you learn from your parents?
While growing up in my household (4 girls mom and step in dad), my mom worked for school district which within 4 years on her job in transportation, the district expanded and built multimillion dollar district office and she applied within acct/ payroll dept and got job. When u work in depts as this, the only way to get promoted/ wage increase is to go to college and earn degrees, so all the while we kids had to rely on doing things, homework mainly, on our own. She was preparing for THEIR...

I believe in working hard and i think any young adult needs that especially when you just come out of college. By a house and get settled, however by the time you hit forty it would be nice to be able to get out of the rat race and smell the roses, experience life.

Re: Passive Income Strategies
We are now retired, but when we were in our 30's we used my income to purchase rental property and stocks we could purchase with out a broker. It is important to have a good relationship with your banker. We got our best real estate on divorce or the owner died and both groups need a quick reasonable offer. Our property is all paid for. I all ways reinvested my dividends. We now have dividends sent to us. Monday, We deposited a check for $599.00 from a bank stock we bought and reinvested the...

Re: Hey Runners! Here Are a Few Ways to Save Some Cash
I am not a runner (but used to be but not in competitions), and have a casual interest in the sport. Yes, I have noticed it no longer is inexpensive to participate, from sign up fees to the cost of articles to wear. Would have me running away from this in no time flat.

Re: Hey Runners! Here Are a Few Ways to Save Some Cash
@redcatcec Very true, especially if you want to actively participate in races. Those can add up very quickly. Fortunately, if you just want to keep it a more passive hobby, there are a lot of ways to cut corners, cost-wise, without sacrificing the quality of gear, so you can still enjoy the sport while keeping to a stricter budget.

Re: Hey Runners! Here Are a Few Ways to Save Some Cash
Hi, You can actually pick up lightly used running shoes on Ebay too. I picked up these for $19.99. They are in great condition and were well worth the price. My hubby has picked up several good, clean pairs as well. Just look for lots of pictures to give you clues on condition and ask the seller questions. Sometimes, people get a pair and don't like them. A wipe or spray of Lysol can help make them yours too. And, even if you don't run, who can beat $20 for a good pair of shoes? MIZUNO WAVE...

Re: Hey Runners! Here Are a Few Ways to Save Some Cash
I just wear my Brooks shoes to run in. My girlfriend in MO buys shoes all the time and then doesn't like them and gives them to me (we wear the same size) after she wears them only 2-3 times. No special clothes other than shorts and a T-shirt or jogging outfit.

Hey Runners! Here Are a Few Ways to Save Some Cash
There’s a misconception that running is a cheap hobby. Truth be told, it’s anything but. Between the shoes, wicking clothes — garments made of fast-drying material, essential for avoiding injury from chafing or blistering — assorted gear, and race registrations, it can add up… fast. I’ve easily spent thousands of dollars in the last four years (when I really kicked up my devotion to the sport), and today was reminded by my Garmin Connect app that it’s almost time for another big spend: two...

Re: Looking for Ideas
Hey @Shannon Peel - I hope the bottom isn't TMI. It's mostly examples to drive a point home. Most of my entrepreneurial challenges come from: 'am I doing the most optimal thing to maximize my time?' Hard work does not equate money, nor success. You have to combine hard work with optimal moves to make a lot of money. But the hardest thing about business is that it's not like schoolwork where they give you the answer. Something you've thought long and hard about that you thought is the best...

Re: Blue collar. Senior lady. Recovering from broken leg. Unemployed and need to earn income. Help!
I've had some luck using the Rat Race Rebellion website: https://ratracerebellion.com/ . Also, check craigslist daily for side jobs - I usually look for online or in-person focus groups. I check out gigs and etc. jobs. Good luck! If you need help with other expenses, you may want to reach out to United Way (call 211). They could most likely match you up with rental assistance, food assistance, and other stuff. Good luck!

Re: Thrifty Pig - paid surveys
It makes me wonder who is qualified to successfully take these surveys, they seem so selective and on what basis are they qualifying/disqualifying you? Gender, age, race, and so on. From what I have read and experienced from them, the surveys are narrowly focused and no idea to who they are accepting as participants.
