I have an 18 month CD that just matured this week. I moved the money into my savings account to have it sit there until I figure out what to do with it. A friend says I should buy stock while it is so cheap, but I have never done that and don't know where or how to start. Do you think this is wise advice?

Yes do it, Join Robinhood, it's a free-trading app that millions of people use. All trades are free as long as you trade less than $3000 per day.

It's amazing. I am already up 18% this week from the bottom. Also, no one knows if it will go back up or down so be ready to hold for a long time. Buy and hold - look at Warren Buffett's 10 rules

Stocks you would look at: these 5 are a little riskier

  • Delta airlines
  • Azaul airlines
  • Carnival cruise
  • Any restaurant stock is probably good
  • Purple mattress
  • If you want safe stocks
  • Square (SQ)
  • Bank of America
  • Facebook is really cheap right now
  • Macdonalds
  • Disney

I have been using the Stash Invest app for 3 years now and love it.  You can buy microstocks for companies you love like Amazon and Netflix,  or invest in mutual funds for causes you are interested like Solar Energy manufacturers.
