Hello, I am currently trying to decide if I should finish my associate’s degree in accounting, and continue on to a bachelors degree, or push it off for a while and work 2 jobs for a year to build up my savings. I am a single mother so the prospect of going back to school will take a lot of focus and planning. Also the other problem is I do not think that I am interested in accounting, I just know it’s a valuable skill to have. If anyone could share their point of view, I would greatly...Read More...

Hey everyone. Just thought I’d introduce myself and make myself known on here. Nice to meet you all. I’m using penny hoarder to find ways to earn money from home. So far everything I’ve looked at on this site requires experience. I’ll keep looking everyday but if anybody knows of anything that I can do that doesn’t require any specific skills or experience please let me know. I’m also looking for ways to get training in online and computer skills but am looking for entry level work or just...Read More...

Possible Divorce

Misty
It may come to pass that my husband and I divorce. I'm an unemployed mother (I retired from my job as process server to have my child and won't go back to it as I feel it's too dangerous). I know I NEED a job ASAP but I'm struggling on what to do next. I've been a process server for 10 years and don't want to go back into it. Should I just start looking for customer service jobs? Write out a list as to what I'm good at (skills, etc)? Go with a seasonal job? Any tips?Read More...
Pps There are also free places that will do your resume. I think in Philadelphia the state employment agency will help. Here we also have Jewish Family Services that will help anyone with a resume feee or for a very small amount. SharonRead More...
PS. Be sure to get child support. I know people who skipped that part and regret it. You might even be able to do a gofundme for a lawyer 🙂Read More...

Collections

Forum: Debt
Please give me advice on how I should best move forward. I honestly thought I paid off a loan froma store 3 years ago. I wa very shocked to see a collections service on my Equifax. The original amont was around 400. Now with interst, it is close to 700. I cannot pay this. I am laid off. If I make a deal with them to pay some if it to close the debt, I think that will show on my equifax for 6 years from the date of the deal arrangement. I think if I just wait 4 more years, it is cleared from...Read More...

Hi everyone, Happy Friday! I wanted to ask: what are everyone’s Thanksgiving plans this year? I’ve heard all kinds of things from small gatherings with immediate family only to people forgoing the holiday altogether. I’d be curious to know what our community members have decided on. In case you missed it, last week I shared that we launched a new newsletter. It’s called Smart Money Moves. It’s a monthly newsletter devoted to all things planning for the future: investing, retirement and so...Read More...
Spent Thanksgiving with my husband, quietly. It was very nice. We usually don't do a really big thing. We don't have any family closeby. I'm hoping that our kids come for Christmas but it is up in the air because of the pandemic. Hope everyone else had a nice day.Read More...

Is this savings account legit?

Forum: Save Money
lcorbitt
Anyone used Yotta Savings before? Saw them on a Youtube video and opened an account, but didn't feel comfortable enough to put in more than $500. Anyone know if they're legit? It's like playing the lottery in that you get a weekly ticket for every $25 deposited and the top prize if $10 million. It just feels like the prizes must come from existing deposits, though they say they're FDIC insured.Read More...

Budget Saving Information

I use Mint. I get tempted by YNAB and attend some of their learning sessions, but just can't seem to wrap my head around it. I understand the concept of zero-based budgeting, but all the pushout categories with YNAB leaves me confused so I've just stuck with Mint since 2014.Read More...

Verification of offers

Bobbi Jones
Hi there! I'm new so I'm not sure if I'm in the right place, but I received an offer from a company to put a sticker on my vehicle for ad purposes. The money they said they pay is a bit outrageous and I just don't know how to verify it. The offer is apparently separate from the company itself. There's probably a real simple way to do this but I usually miss the simple stuff and go right for the complicated. 😏Read More...
Yes, these scams are horrible. I have a cousin who got caught up in one who depleted he and his wife's savings accounts. On top of that, turns out the police was watching the company and he got caught up in the illegal mess...arrested! Be careful.Read More...

Aldi is awesome

Forum: Save Money

I went into Aldi today after my bike ride, and I was reminded of why I need to shop there regularly. The prices are amazing, the selection is good, and the store was really clean. I love Publix because of the selection, but the prices are much higher. I will continue to shop at Publix for certain items, but I'm going to make it a point to go to my local Aldi's for everything else. I got this really good Thanksgiving stuffing and cranberry pasta. Does anyone else use Aldi's and like them?Read More...

Hi Penny Hoarders, I read about a NASA bed rest study in the "50 Ways to Make Extra Money This Month" report by the Penny Hoarders Staff and updated November 9, 2020. It is number 31. But it's just a description- no links or information about how you would go about getting in on this opportunity. The pay sounded good- $19,000 for 60 days! Does anyone know about this?Read More...

How to save money at the vet's

Forum: Save Money
lismox
I have 3 cats and had to put two down this year (we didn't have 5 at one time, only 3). I used both my regular and emergency vet this year out of necessity, but I will be avoiding my vet as much as possible now, and doing the following things instead: 1. Using a vet tech who comes to our local Petsmart. Literally I spent $10 per kitten for their first two vaccines. It would have cost hundreds of dollars at my vet's office. Check with your local pet store to see if they have mobile clinics,...Read More...

One thing I found out a couple years back is the more payments that you make the faster your credit will go up. for instance, I had a small limit on a Chase Card of around $3,000 and I started using it to purchase products for my business and paying it off sometimes three times a week and my score went up very quickly! and my limit it went up faster than the normal 9 months waiting period for small increases. Someone had told me that frequency of payments shows your ability to pay and that...Read More...
Try Credit One, First Premier, Capital One for bad credit Visa/MC's. You will pay a monthly service fee on each card from $6.95-8.95 and a high annual fee and high interest with small CL. $300-500. There are other startup fees, as well. (These are not the cards you have to pay cash upfront to get. I have never tried one of those.) I had 5 accounts paid pristinely for 5 years and there is no good exit plan. The cards proved my creditworthiness and helped my credit score. But when I could get...Read More...

If reading isn't your thing, here's a video I made covering FICO scores So, what is a FICO score? First, FICO stands for the Fair Isaac Corporation. The FICO score was created in 1989 as a standardized way for lenders to interpret your credit report and determine whether or not to give you a loan. How is a FICO score different than a credit report? A FICO score is simply a summarized version of your credit report. Your credit report lists all your credit history, but it doesn’t keep track of...Read More...
