Can Drinking Coffee Affect Your Finances?

Forum: Budgeting
Moore Income
Today I am sitting at a coffee shop working away on my computer before I head to my job. But instead of purchasing a coffee from the shop, I brought my own coffee from home. Why you may ask? Because a cup of coffee can cost upwards of $5. I am a huge coffee drinker but $5 cups of coffee tend to add up over time and before you know it, you have spent quite a bit on a cup of jo! I have started coming here regularly and have noticed there are people who come in every morning to buy a cup of...Read More...

How To Use More Money Affirmations?

Forum: Make Money
Law of attractionss
How To Use More Money Affirmations? Several years ago, I had a mentor who recommended me to start using money affirmations . She suggested that I could radically change my perspective of life by thinking different thoughts. Until that moment, I had not heard about money affirmations or mantras, so I was skeptical. My logical mind simply could not connect by saying a few words and having a transformation of life. But he was willing to try it. You see, I was unhappy. I wanted something...Read More...

I am looking to go back to school for a professional certification in a field I have no experience in. Amazon Prime Rewards credit card

Forum: Credit
Sierra
Looking for advice about the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature credit card. It tends to have AMAZING reviews from credit card websites (because of the 5% cash back on amazon and whole food purchases) but it has trash reviews from the majority of users. It's something I know I would need to pay off in full every month, but other than that, it looks like most people have a problem with Chase Bank screwing up their credit when they use the card. I'm asking for advice from people who know much...Read More...
I have this card--it's the only credit card I have, in fact--and honestly? I'd only recommend keeping the card if you do a lot of shopping on Amazon and are able to pay the balance off every month. I unfortunately ended up deep in debt with mine (because it's a dangerously easy thing to do) and while I've been working at paying mine off, I may have to look into closing the account just to make any headway. As others have said, the interest rate is pretty high.Read More...
I have had the Amazon rewards credit card since 2012 and I have never noticed any credit score problems. I agree that it's absolutely imperative that you pay it off every month, because missing a payment or carrying a high balance from month to month really adds the interest up (for comparison, I don't have really have this problem with my Discover credit card). My strategy is to use this card for recurring things (Netflix, Language subscriptions, etc) occasionally gas if I happen to grab...Read More...

Amazon Prime Chase Credit Card

Forum: Credit
Karen Kosmoski
I have had this card for several years and recommended to those who purchase a lot from Amazon. I tried to pay my balance off every month, if I have a large bill or purchase that I would normally use my debit card for, I put it on this card and then pay it right off. I have had no problems with Chase on this card, and it gives me a free credit score every month. I wouldn't hesitate to use this card.Read More...

I have too many credit cards. I really want to not use them and let several of them close by the issuer for lack of use. Right now I use less than 1% of my available credit. I have read it is OK to use up to 30% without negative consequences. My credit score is 813. I would like to keep it this high. Will letting some cards close hurt my score?Read More...
Most likely yes because your debt ratio will go up percentage-wise. Even if you leave them open and do not use them they still report your available buying power and falsely inflate your worth. You would need to increase your CL with the remaining CC's to avoid that. I recently closed 4 perfectly paid credit cards and was slammed 100 points. I had my head spinning. Now I am carefully opening new credit to have current payment history to show. Even though my point was to get out of the credit...Read More...

This is how I save a little bit here and there.

I've been reading on here that many folks are looking for ways to save money each month. I have found a couple of ways by following one of my dad's habits. I am very careful about what I throw away. I recycle as much as possible . I have a burn barrel to burn my confidential papers, but that can be shredded and used as packing material as well. Differences in Credit Score

Wow, that is really unfair. This seems just another example of how stupid a credit score is, when they can't even narrow it down to one reliable source. Building Credit Score

Forum: Credit
ChefSue
Hello! I found out the hard way that the credit bureaus will close your accounts for non-activity and it's all legit. This week alone, I had 12 Dept. of Education student loans closed on me by Experian. When I called, they started arguing with me. Then, they drop your score because you show a "thin" credit file. What can we do about this?Read More...
As E Allen stated, the credit bureaus absolutely cannot "close an account" they only report what is given to them. If you had several student loans that are inactive/paid off or other inactive/paid off accounts, they will eventually drop off your credit report. The score dropping because you show less accounts than you did before is a part of their credit score algorithms that have been in place since FICO and other credit scores were developed. If you want to increase your credit score...Read More...

Holidays and Unemployment Services

DailyGrind
I was unemployed between July and September. My state's unemployment services office discovered there was one over-payment which I have started to pay back. I called the unemployment service office today to make sure my payment was received and that everything is in good order. So I asked the unemployment service rep if I can file for...Read More...
I am sorry that you were treated badly. Money is stressful enough without someone threatening to audit what you have already received and usually spent. My recommendation would be to just call back and speak with another rep. If the questions come up then you could explain the disconnect. Saving money

Forum: Save Money
The first step to saving money is to figure out how much you spend. Keep track of all your expenses—that means every coffee, household item and cash tip. Once you have your data, organize the numbers by categories, such as gas, groceries and mortgage, and total each amount. Consider using your credit card or bank statements to help you with this. Bank of America clients can use the Spending & Budgeting tool , which automatically categorizes your transactions for easier budgeting in the...Read More...

Do you find video ads annoying?

You're busy watching a video, when suddenly an ad fills the screen. Really? So I ask myself if people are getting annoyed with video ads. Popping up while the video is playing. I don't like the interruption, but it does make me think about why they are targeting me! Also I find it good for my brain to see how much I can ignore. Agree, @KellyFromKeene ! In my own experience, I've found cover letter formats are really dependent on the industry. I've had friends have luck with ultra creative cover letters / resumes, but they are in creative industries where that sort of thing is highly valued. I think it all depends on the field you are working in. I applied for the same job in 2 different agencies in the same area. One of them I used a traditional resume and cover letter and the other I used a more modern one with a different layout, font and a picture. I was, honestly, a perfect fit for the jobs. I got an interview and eventually an offer with the traditional one, and not even a call with the modern one. Crazy.Read More...

It really kinda depends on what the other numbers are and the condition of the bill. If the other numbers make a creative pattern or number sequence then it might be but just having 4 eights together with other random numbers.
