You can get started with as little as $5. Many brokers out there allow you to start that way. Good advice @CycloneD. I would add to that to also take a look at Stash. They also allow you to get started with $5. Just as an aside, I joined Stash through Swagbucks (a site that pays you for taking surveys, watching videos, etc.) and earned 3500SB which I redeemed for gift cards.
