How can I adjust my user preferences and notifications settings?

You have the ability to customize your profile in a variety of ways, including what categories to watch, track and even mute. You can also update what notifications you receive as well as the appearance of this site. Simply click your profile icon at the top right, next to your name, and find your preferences menu.

What are Trust Levels?

Our new community platform features a Trust Level system. This helps ease new users into the more advanced features of the site as well as helps avoid spam. Trust Levels range from Level 0 (new user) to Level 4 (leader). Read more about Trust Levels here.

What are badges and how do I earn them?

Our new platform allows community members to earn a number of badges for their achievements. Aside from being fun, badges help reinforce positive behavior and facilitates “learning by doing.” There are many that are automatically granted by the system (for example, “added a link” and “received a like”) as well as some special badges that can only be granted by an administrator.

We know you’ll have lots of exciting questions about how to best use this new community, so we’ve created a Site Feedback forum for you to ask questions and provide answers for other members that may not have been answered here. Have a question or have an answer to provide? You can view the Site Feedback forum here.

Community Guidelines

Hey Penny Hoarder! Welcome to your community. This is a place for you to connect with like-minded people who are passionate about personal finance. We envision a world where people feel less stress about their finances. Our sole mission is to empower people to make smart choices with their money.

We rely on you to help foster a safe, friendly environment where everyone is welcome. Here are a few guidelines to remember when contributing to the community.

Keep it friendly

Be kind. We encourage respectful, informed conversation.

If you’re new, welcome. Go ahead and introduce yourself and check out our getting started guide.

Share your knowledge

We encourage you to be open with your fellow community members. It’s likely someone else may find your insights helpful. Have an app you love to use? A budgeting method you swear by? We want to know the details! Tell us how and why your recommendation worked for you, or maybe why something didn’t work for you.

Keep it safe

Remember, our forum is public. Help us help you protect your privacy. Do not post or comment with any personally identifying or confidential information. This includes your social security number, phone number, mailing address and/or email address. Any information of this kind will be removed.

One account per person

Please refrain from running multiple identities in our community group. One account per person only!

Stick to the guidelines; we maintain the right to remove posts and threads

We reserve the right to hide or delete posts or threads that don’t adhere to our rules and guidelines. We also reserve the right to mute, remove and/or block members who don’t adhere to our rules and guidelines.

If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, feel free to reach out to our staff

No soliciting

No spam. We don’t allow selling, soliciting or self-promotion of any kind unless explicitly requested by the admins. This includes, but is not limited to, referral and affiliate links, promoting your webinar, event, business (including job openings) or blog, link baiting or click solicitation, crowdsourcing ventures, file uploads containing any of the above, asking for money or donations and inboxing other members without their permission.

Those who do post these things will receive a warning and their post will be disapproved.

No hate or discriminatory comments

Disrespectful comments will not be tolerated, including hateful or discriminatory comments regarding race, ethnicity, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation and/or political beliefs. We also ask that you please refrain from using offensive and negative language.

We understand a community is only as strong as its members. We need you to help us maintain a safe environment. If a community member is not following the rules or you see a problem, flag it.

Your participation counts

The conversations we have here set the tone for every new arrival. Help us influence the future of this community by choosing to engage in discussions that make this forum an interesting place to be — and avoiding those that do not.

Discourse provides tools that enable the community to collectively identify the best (and worst) contributions: bookmarks, likes, flags, replies, edits, watching, muting and so forth. Use these tools to improve your own experience, and everyone else’s, too.

Let’s leave our community better than we found it.

Post only your own stuff

You may not post anything digital that belongs to someone else without permission. No plagiarism. Don’t copy and paste content and articles from other websites.

Powered by you

This site is operated by your friendly local staff and you, the community. If you have any further questions about how things should work here, open a new topic in the site feedback category and let’s discuss!
