There’s also a sweepstakes going on, sponsored by the AFCPE and Nacha, themed #ImSavingFor… To participate in the sweepstakes, take the America Saves Pledge (at Pledge | America Saves) and register for the virtual town hall (Register at: Town Hall: Real Ways to Save Today | America Saves). Then comment with your very top takeaway either on the Facebook or YouTube streams no later than 11:59 PM ET on Sunday, March 5th. See Official Rules | America Saves for sweepstakes rules and step by step links. What are you saving for?
I have sinking funds for so many things…
But really, I just continue to build my emergency fund. that’s where the majority of my savings go. I think it would be great to have a year’s worth of salary (not just expenses) saved.
We realized we needed to start saving more for our kids 529 plans. Our daughter just started kindergarten this year so we created an account for her. Our son is 8 years old and its crazy to think that his time horizon for savings growth is only 10 years.
Awesome! I found this very simple calculator by Vanguard that lets you plug in the contribution level you plan to help with to determine the optimal monthly amount to invest: Vanguard college savings planner With two kids, it was definitely an eye opener for me.
Me too, @kellyfromkeene. Sinking funds are so important (Christmas Club, yearly and quarterly bills, etc. I do tend to focus more on short-term emergency savings. I would love a year’s worth of expenses saved, but not there yet
I’ve been attending the America Saves programs for several years now. I attended yesterday’s session (2/27) and really just enjoy the speakers.
