Close Checking Account

Does closing one checking account and opening a new one hurts your credit score? I am leaving BB&T and transfering everything to Navy Federal Credit Union.

I have never heard of, or experienced, this being an issue, but I don’t know the ‘policy’ on it.

Closing bank account can hurt your credit score but you have another account in place so it should not effect your credit score.

I have never had it hurt my credit score.

Generally, a checking account should not affect your credit score.

There are however some situations related to a checking account that might.

If the bank you open the account with does a hard pull of your credit, it will affect it obviously.

Also, sometimes signing up for “overdraft protection” could essentially affect your score.

Other than that, the only other thing that might affect it is if you are managing your account poorly (bouncing checks, etc.)
