Dumb Question

I know this will probably be a dumb question but I’ve never had a credit card. My husband and I are going to split and I wanted to know what kind of a first credit card can I sign up for? Is there such a thing?

If you have credit in other ways, like a mortgage or loan in your name, you should still have some kind of credit history that would help you get a credit card. I’m assuming you’re in the USA. I’m from Canada, so our cards are a bit different but you’d want to get something with no annual fees and some kind of perk like cash back on your purchases: https://www.thepennyhoarder.co…h-back-credit-cards/

If you don’t have a credit history, you should still be able to get a card. They might just offer you one with a low limit, like $500.00. But there’s lots of competition in the US, so you could probably find something better. Once you have a history of making regular payments reliably, you can ask that they increase your credit limit.

Hope that helps!

Thank you, CalmIron! It does help a lot.
