The gas prices have been soaring across the country, how has this impacted your lifestyle?
Honestly, it hasn’t impacted me all that much. I complain about it though! I live and work within a half mile, also I live in a very small ‘city’ and things are close by. I still travel where I want on the weekends like to a concert or the ocean. I have some wiggle room in my budget and budget for the increased cost.
Food and electricity increases are what impact me! I feed 2 teens and food budget has increased by about 30%. My power bill has gone up about $100/m this winter. Heat is down to 62 degrees in the house and meals are more budget friendly.
This is quite the popular subject around here! No big impact on me/my family just yet. If gas prices get high enough, I’d consider other modes of transportation for longer trips.
I was planning to drive from Minneapolis to Chicago (about six hours) for my birthday in a few weeks. Since I’d be with a party of three, the Amtrak is a consideration, but a bit slower and still more expensive than driving, despite higher gas prices. Same goes for three plane tickets – way more expensive than driving.
However, I’m all for alternatives to cars. If they were viable options!
It’s so tuff on people with fixed income and seniors
Seems like prices keep going up about $0.10 cents every other day for me.
For some reason I hadn’t even thought about buying gas at Sam’s Club even though I have a membership. But with prices being $0.20 less there, you better believe I will be going there now.
What really stinks is that gas prices directly affect my current income generation which is doing deliveries. Because gas prices going up make it more expensive every mile I have to drive but the pay for those deliveries is not going up to match it.
It’s just life, but it sure does stink!
Gas prices around me are up to $6 per gallon in some areas. I am definitely combining my errand trips & not taking my Sunday drive, like I’ve done for so many years. I am also trying to stay within the speed limit & accelerating slowly after a stop. My oldest son just sold his larger SUV & purchased a hybrid Corolla instead for his 40 minute daily work commute. I have definitely noticed a lifestyle change with the increasing prices, not just fuel, but also food. I am more conscious of not wasting food & have sacrificed a little quality to save money.
I can say this, they SAY inflation is up 8% but milk where I live is up 22% in the last few weeks.
Luckily I do not drive much but when I do I have to so the only change is I will pay more snd get angry at the pump. I have filled up for $40 a few years ago and now it is $100.
This is also bad for people that get paid or reimbursed mileage because that may or may not be adjusted. The one place that reimburses me mileage has not had an increase in over 10 years.

Mileage reimbursement for 2020 is 58.5 cents per mile, according to the IRS website. Are you not getting that amount?
To get anywhere around here relies on driving. Public transportation is super slow. I’ve been staying home more often. I’ll group errands together, drive at a more steady speed, ease my foot on the gas and break pedals.
The IRS does BUT many Federal jobs and VA and other Government Agencies are paying the same they have for years. It has not gone up.
