Congrats on reaching your retirement track goals. I am still a long ways from retirement but always something we have to think about financially.

@irishnanny can you please explain what it means to buy back into your retirement? I have always been self-employed and my retirement has and is made up of self-funding plans. I’ve never worked anywhere offering pensions so I don’t understand tiers.

i work in the school so when i first started back 20 years ago my husband said you don;t need that, so i dropped out.after being told i would be vested in one more year, i asked if i could get back to tier 4 instead of tier 6 it would give me more, so i filled the paper work out, it took two years to compliant from the retirement .so i could pay every tow weeks out of my pay check or pay it up to date, because i had just sold my car i paid up to date, and i am now in tier 4 which means the union gives 3% to my retirement each pay period ,hope this helps

First, congratulations on taking advantage of the pension available to you. Secondly, I have not left my retirement plan and was fully vested after 5 years. I have a clear plan in place to retire from state government end of 2030 when I am 58. I will have the ability to then work in the private sector where my income could easily double.

Secondly, make sure you know the requirements for retiring with full pension and what that pension amount will be. For me, I can meet the rule of 80 where my age plus years of service equal 80 and I can retire with full benefits.
