I asked how much extra cash you keep in your savings account.
Now, how much emergency cash do you keep at home where you can put your hands on it 24/7/365
Do you not keep any cash at home,
Do you keep $1000, $5000, $10,000, $20,000 or more at home and why?
Just curious because your sock drawer doesn’t pay interest but your bank is not open 24/7/365 either…
Just asking so I can be covered in an emergency but also have my extra money making money (interest) when it just sits there.
I only keep extra cash in my checking and I only keep a small amount in my house for emergency
I like knowing I have a decent amount of cash at home in case of an emergency and if things are closed, but I am losing out on interest I could earn on that money.
I am losing about $100 a month in interest by keeping it at home instead of a High Yield Savings Account.
Thats $1200 a year, its been there 6 years now, thats $7,200 I have missed out on.
That is substantial…
But I want to keep some at home because I live in a small town and I can not get more than $10,000 out of the bank unless they order it in advance from the Feds.
I tried so I know…
I don’t keep much out of an account. Between ATMs and the ability to get extra cash out of the account when shopping, I really keep less than 100 out. Bit then I live a short walk away from an ATM so it’s usually not going to be a big deal, unless you get that one business that’s cash only and hard to read signs for the information.
