Financial Fitness February: Day 5 (eBay Sales!)

Today I did pretty good about not spending a lot of money and I actually made some money in my business so I would say overall it was a pretty good day.

I didn’t do any sourcing today as I am turning my attention now towards getting stuff listed, however, there are several stores I would like to visit before this “clearance season” ends.

Here are the financial highlights of my day:

1.) eBay Sales - For those who may not know, I am an eBay seller and I buy a lot of items from retail stores and thrift shops to resell on the platform.

I also sell through a method called “dropshipping” which is where I have an agreement with a supplier to sell their products at a higher price and when that item sells I ship the product from my supplier to their door and make a profit on the difference.

All my sales were dropshipping sales. I made one today and actually made two yesterday but forgot to mention them.

Overall, I sold one lava lamp, two table lamps (in one order) and today I sold a pack of landscaping lights. (Lighting seems to be popular right now)

The total sales price was $96.98 on all the items but after fees and product cost I will come out with somewhere between $15-$20 profit.

It’s not a ton, I know, but all I really have to do after listing the items is copy the buyers shipping address to an order from my supplier so I am not complaining.

I did make another sale today which I am excited about, but I have not received payment yet so waiting until I do to share.

FUN FACT: Dropshipping is actually fairly easy to figure out how to do and can provide a nice little income on the side. I have personally been doing dropshipping since I was 14 years old an living in Nicaragua, Central America!

2.) Holiday Gas Savings - I mentioned yesterday I purchased gas but did not fill up the tank, today I went ahead and filled it up all the way at a gas station we have in our area called Holiday.

There were several reasons I filled up here.

First of all, it was $2.18 a gallon here compared to $2.22 at others. Also, I had a coupon for $0.12 cents off per gallon.

(A local grocery store; Hornbacher’s, gives you gas coupons for Holiday when you purchase. As an Instacart delivery driver, I always get receipts from shopping here for others, and since we are not allowed to give them the printed receipt, I get to take advantage of the gas savings)

My total savings from the coupon came out to $0.79 cents and in addition to that, I used my Amazon Prime Rewards Visa card to make the purchase since they are running a 10% cash back promotion at Holiday Gas Stations.

My wife made smoothies for dinner, and I needed to get ice for her to make them. That brought the total purchase to $15.90.

With the cash back promotion, I can expect to get an additional $1.59 savings for using my card.

Not too much more went on financially for me today, but a few bucks in sales and a couple in savings is a WIN in my books!

Share your WINS, I love to hear them!

Also, have you ever sold anything for a profit? What was the most profitable sale you have ever made?

My best eBay reselling item was a pair of black leather head rests from my neighbor’s trash, that came out of her daughter’s $$$$$ SUV. They had replaced the head rests with ones that screens in the back of them. I sold them on eBay for $75 + shipping. They cost me nothing! I can’t believe that they just threw them away.

@debora.morrissey That is so awesome!

That really gives a lot of meaning to the quote “one persons trash is another’s treasure”!

Great job! That’s the hardest part to me of budgeting and following through. I like to eat out. I try to eat better and buy fresh foods, but then lose my enthusiasm and by the time I get back to it, they’re not fresh any more.

Sold a Barry Manilow CD for $40 and a Bear in the Big Blue House CD for $25. Both cost me less than a dime.

Those are great flips @jeremym

And you wonder how many people didn’t even look at the CD before you found it.

Just goes to show there is profit to be made all over the place!

My diet I am currently doing had me eating a cup of cottage cheese for lunch rolleyesalong with a boiled egg and 5 crackers.

Definitely not as tasty as pizza!

I don’t hate cottage cheese entirely, but when you have to eat a whole cup of it… it becomes less desirable.

But I was hungry so I ate it.

That diet must have a name. They all do. Pizza at Walmart is cheaper than healthy foods, but we know how fattening it is. Keep up the good work!

@mskimberly They call it The Military Diet, but I don’t like to call it that because it has nothing to do with the military and people always ask why it is called that and I don’t know LOL
