I am currently looking for cell phone plans options. To begin with, I currently have a cell phone, (not a smart phone). I have it for while I am driving, for emergencies or if something comes up and I need to make a call. I am the type of person who does not like phones or texting and only have them for emergencies. The cell doesn’t work at home, so the bare minimum landline is still needed. I currently have ATT Pay as You Go and it is $100/year, (10¢/minute). With my not using the phone more than a few minutes a month, my balance is over $220 and renewal is coming due in June which will up the balance even more. It seems like all carriers I have looked at have monthly plans that come out to more than $100/year. So my question is, are there any carriers or plans out there, (for those who don’t use there phones) where you pay for your usage and not a monthly or annual fee? Any other suggestions?
I tried Twigby for my kid’s not-so-smart phones. The price was amazing, but the service was not wonderful. It did the job though, until we moved then there was NO service. Now I have service through Consumer Cellular…
But I just re-read your post and realized that I am not talking about pay-as-you-go. So, no, I guess I don’t have suggestions! But I am loving Consumer Cellular.
I just last week dumped Verizon. I was paying $65/mo for talk, text and 2 GB data which I never used…99% of the time I use WiFi. I bought a $15/mo plan through TracFone which is talk, text and a half a gig of data. Toward the end of my first month I will watch and see if I’m close to my data and bump it up for an additional $5/mo. I’m putting it on auto-pay so don’t have to deal with paper billing.
You might want to have a look at Ting. I’ve been with them for several years. You only pay for what you use, and accounts are postpaid. Their customer service is good, too.
I’m looking at Mint mobile as a few youtube videos which explained that you can get for $15 a month with 1gb data…and if you do 3, 6 or 12 month, the cost is even less… I have not looked at service area yet… that may be deal breaker…
